THIS WEEK'S TOP STORYLINES
- Florida Tech gained eight yards on 29 rushing attempts and Virginia Univeristy of Lynchburg totaled 42 carries for 30 yards, bringing the two-game total allowed by the Wolves' defense to 38 yards on 71 carries (0.54 yards per carry). The 38 yards allowed represent Newberry's second-fewest in a two-game span since computer records began in 1999.
- The Wolves haven't allowed a rushing play of over 17 yards all season, with Virginia University of Lynchburg's longest going for 12 yards and Florida Tech's longest spanning just seven.
- Virginia University of Lynchburg's 213 yards of total offense marked the 19th time since the start of the 2014 season, and second time this year after Florida Tech managed 230 yards, that a Newberry opponent has been held to 250 yards or less.
- Jamarcus Henderson is the NCAA's active career leader in tackles for loss (50.5), leads Division II in career tackle for loss yardage (246), and is third among active Division II players in sacks (24.5). He is 7.0 from cracking the top 25 in Division II history in both TFL's and sacks.
- Henderson moved into second place in both career sacks and career tackles for loss with 3.0 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss on Thursday. He now has 24.5 career sacks, 1.5 from matching Mark Kennedy (1983-84) for the career lead, and trails Tony Ransom (2003-07) by one tackle for loss for the lead in that category with 50.5 in his career.
- Henderson and Joe Blue each have single-game highs in Division II this season: Blue with his 20 tackles at Western Carolina and Henderson for his 5.5 tackles for loss vs. VUL.
- Newberry is seeking its second-ever three-game winning streak over Carson-Newman. The Wolves won five straight in the series from 1949-60 (no meetings from 1950-56) but has managed to win consecutive games over the Eagles just four times since. Newberry enters the game having won three of four over the Eagles for the first time since 1985-88.
- Carson-Newman is on a two-game winning streak after a 10-point road loss to then-No. 2 West Florida to open the season. The Eagles defeated Wingate 31-14 Saturday night before a national audience on ESPN3.
