The Wolves drop to Wingate 17-6

Newberry will travel to Queens' on April 11 at 4 p.m.

NEWBERRY - Newberry was met with a tough scoring crew on Saturday night, as they met the Bulldogs of Wingate at Setzler Field. The Wolves would not be able to pick up momentum and fall to Wingate, 17-6.


The Wolves (4-8, 0-5 SAC) were held to just eight shots in the first period, with only five of them being on goal. Junior Jeremy Ross broke the scoring streak for the Bulldogs' (6-5, 4-1 SAC), putting Newberry on the board.


In the second half, both teams would get off to a slow start. Wingate's Josh Ferentinos would cut the second period slump, giving the team a 5-1 lead. Newberry went on a dry spell, not being able to get off any shots in the second. The Bulldogs' would take full advantage of the scoreless streak, giving them a 10-1 advantage going into the half.

Daytin Vidovich start off the scoring for the Wolves in the second half. Wingate would counteract the home team, recording two consecutive goals of their own.

Kobie Jordan would bring in a little energy, putting one more point on the board for Newberry. He would lead the team on the night, with both of his shots being on frame. The Wolves would record two more goals in the contest by Matt Cromie and Belton Bryan.

Wingate out shot the Wolves 49-17 on the night. Newberry would see 13 of their shots be on target.. Goalie Erick Szurley collected eight saves in the match.

The Wolves head on a two game road stretch, as they travel to Queens' on April 11 at 4 p.m. Newberry will then head to Harrogate, Tenn.to meet Lincoln Memorial.
