CAYCE – Newberry's postseason run came to an end against top-seeded Wingate 5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Semifinals at the Cayce Tennis Center.
The Wolves finished the season 21-7 with a slew of SAC All-Conference awards. Four Wolves were honored on the doubles side with pair No. 1
Amanda Carrillo and
Marta Gomar earning all-conference second team doubles while
Elisa Aguirre and
Lucia Davila garnered an honorable mention. Carrillo and Aguirre also were named to the all-conference second team in singles.
Wingate got off to a quick start in doubles taking the first two points before all-conference pair
Amanda Carrillo and
Marta Gomar nabbed the remaining match 8-6 to pull the Wolves within one, 2-1, heading into singles.
Newberry was unable to stop the top-seeded Bulldogs as they won three straight singles matches to gain the 5-1 victory and a spot in the SAC Tennis Championship.
The Wolves finished the season ranked No. 39 in the ITA Division II national rankings with a 21-7 record going 7-3 in league play.
