Lincoln Memorial slips past Wolves

Dillon found the net four times in 15-11 loss

HARROGATE, TENN. – A late push from the Wolves fell short as Lincoln Memorial pulled away during the second half to win 15-11 Saturday afternoon.

Lincoln Memorial took the early 1-0 lead on a man-up goal from Kennedy Buechner but less than a minute later Sophie Moore found the net with an assist from Savannah Ohliger to knot it at one apiece. Both teams would match each other shot-for-shot with Rachel Dillon tacking on a pair of goals to bring Newberry within one, 4-3.

Dillon would strike for the third time at the 10:57 mark in the first frame to tie the game up 4-4. Two minutes later Dillon would find Helen Kuhn who fired it into the net to put the Wolves ahead 5-4.

The Railsplitters would score five unanswered goals spanning the first and second halves to take a 9-5 advantage at the 24:19 mark in the latter stanza.

Newberry rebounded with a quick score off a free position attempt from Naomi Killian. The Railsplitters would rack up two more goals before Moore found the net for the second time that afternoon to make it 11-7.

The Wolves pulled within three twice down the stretch but were unable to complete the comeback to fall 15-11.

While the Railsplitters recorded more shots in the contest it was Newberry who was more consistent at finding the frame with 17 of their 21 shots being on goal. Dillon's four goals counted as a team-high on the afternoon.

Brandy Bowman's seven saves brought up her career saves total to over 500. She currently ranks second in the conference in saves with 165 so far this season.

Newberry returns to Setzler Field for a conference matchup against Wingate on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m.
