Newberry bested by Bulldogs

Aguirre wins during both doubles and singles in 7-2 loss

WINGATE, N.C. – No. 37 Newberry was unable to comeback from an early lead from No. 20 Wingate to fall 7-2 Wednesday afternoon.

Pair Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila were the only victors for the Wolves during doubles competition garnering the 8-3 decision over their Wingate opponents. Wingate took the remaining two matches to gain the 2-1 lead heading into singles action.

Wingate won in the fifth flight to expand their lead to two, 3-1, before No. 2 Aguirre defeated her opponent in a three-set 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 thriller to pull the Wolves back within two. Newberry would be unable to complete the comeback to fall to Wingate 7-2.

Newberry returns home to face Tusculum in their final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 14.
