Newberry continues winning ways against Ferris State

A 7-2 win marks the Wolves eighth straight

HILTON HEAD ISLAND – The Wolves continued their successful trip in Hilton Head Island with a 7-2 decision over Ferris State.

Newberry has won eight straight matches dating back to a 9-0 sweep over Limestone on Feb. 17. The streak included a 5-4 win over No. 15 Florida Southern, marking the program's first time beating a nationally-ranked opponent.

The pair of Amanda Carrillo and Marta Gomar put Newberry on the board with the 8-6 win at the No. 1 spot. Joelle Husle and Rebeca Martinez followed with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles before Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila earned an 8-2 win at the second doubles pairing.

Carrillo took a 6-1, 6-1 decision moments before Husle clinched the match with the 6-2, 6-0 finish.

Newberry would lead the way in singles with No. 2 Aguirre picking up the 7-5, 6-1 win and No. 4 Martinez rounding out the win column 6-3, 6-3.

The Wolves will remain in Hilton Head Island for their final match against Tiffin on Thursday, March 8.
