Wolves open series with win

Estridge pitches complete game

NEWBERRY – The Wolves fell behind 3-0 to Coker in the first two innings but scored eight unanswered runs to down Coker 8-3 in the first game of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series.


Danton Hyman got the scoring started in the second inning with a two-run single to left field. Derek Olenchuk followed up with a two-run single in the fourth that gave Newberry a 4-3 lead.


The Wolves scored single runs in the sixth and seven innings before adding two more in the eighth to pull away for the final margin.


Evan Estridge was masterful in the win, going a complete game and allowing three runs on nine hits. He struck out five batters without issuing a walk.
