WISE, VA. – Junior goalkeeper Brandy Bowman came within one of matching her career-high in saves with 18, but Newberry would not be able to overcome a Cavaliers first half lead to drop 17-6.
 

The native from Irvine, California has racked up 98 saves so far this season and currently ranks ninth in Division II in cumulative saves. Her season-high 18 saves against UVa-Wise fell one shy of a personal best that she collected against Lincoln Memorial last year. Bowman logged 10 saves in the first frame and eight in the second, while UVa-Wise only had three on the afternoon. This is the fifth time Bowman has notched double-figure saves this season.
 

After a pair of goals from the Cavaliers' Kristin Gobbi gave UVa-Wise the 2-0 edge, the Wolves came clawing back with Rachel Dillon capitalizing on a free position attempt to make it 2-1. Ninety seconds later, a Cavalier turnover and a ground ball pickup from Savannah Ohliger would result in a free position goal from Monique Proctor.
 

UVa-Wise would score eight unanswered goals before Dillon fired a pass to Helen Kuhn, who found the net to make it 11-3 at intermission.
 

Newberry was unable to overcome the first frame deficit with UVa-Wise pouring on six additional goals in the second. The Wolves matched their first half total with goals from Dillon, Proctor, and Naomi Killian.
 

Five of Newberry's six goals were from free position shots.
 

The Cavaliers' defense held Newberry to 12 shots on the afternoon, with nine of those being on goal.
 

The Wolves return to Setzler Field to face Coker on Wednesday, March 21 at 3:00 p.m. in their conference home opener.
