NEWBERRY – Newberry closes the 2018 season with a trip to Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves defeated the Lions 35-21 in their most recent trip to Madison County, snapping a four-game Mars Hill winning streak on its home field over Newberry. A win will give Newberry a winning season overall and in South Atlantic Conference play.

SERIES HISTORY: Mars Hill leads 30-17, including a 17-5 mark in MHU home games. Newberry has won two straight in the series, but Mars Hill is 27-12 since the SAC began play in 1975 and has won 17 of the last 20 meetings in Mars Hill.

THIS WEEK'S TOP STORYLINES
- Newberry's defense has held its nine non-Division I opponents to an average of 93 yards below their total offensive output entering their game with the Wolves.
- The Wolves have given up four passing touchdowns all season, ranked second nationally behind the two allowed by No. 4 Ouachita Baptist. Newberry has given up just two passing touchdowns since Sept. 13. Catawba became the sixth Newberry opponent this season with a completion percentage of 50 percent or lower against the Wolves.
- Jamarcus Henderson passed Steve Jouse (Carson-Newman, 1999-2002) for second place in SAC history in both career sacks (30) and tackles for loss (58.5) Saturday, now behind only Kyle Kitchens (Catawba, 2014-17), and is tied for 26th in Division II history in tackles for loss.
- Inside linebacker Joe Blue passed Jeremiah Jones (1993-96), his position coach, for ninth in school history in total tackles vs. Catawba and now has 289 in his career. His 25.5 tackles for loss are 10th in school history.
- David Vereen has 15 passes defended, the 12th-most in Division II in 2018 and second-most in a single season by a Newberry player since becoming an official statistic in 2000.
- Markell Castle's 105 yards on five catches gave him 12 100-yard receiving games for his career, tying Newberry's all-time record set by Tymere Zimmerman (2003-06). Castle has 154 catches for 2,425 yards and 24 touchdowns, second to Zimmerman in all three categories.
- Castle and Shea Rodgers have each scored 156 points in their careers: Castle on 26 touchdowns and Rodgers on 21 field goals and 93 PAT's. They're each four points from the top 10 in school history and six points from ninth.
- Newberry had played 1,035 games over nearly 105 full seasons without ever having a final score of 40-10 until defeating Catawba by that score on Saturday afternoon.
- Newberry has played 10 games on Nov. 10 in its history, taking the field in six different cities, but has never played outside the Carolinas on this date.
