CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Kensley Jordan sets a new record for most assists in a three-set match with 27 as Newberry falls to Queens Friday Night at the Levine Center.
The Wolves (8-18, 3-16 SAC) post scores of 23-25, 13-25 and 24-26. Newberry looked to build off a hard fought first set as they took Queens to their limits in the third frame. The Wolves got out to a quick 5-2 lead that included a kill from
Angela Gore and
Toni-Anne Whitlow. Newberry also got points from a service aces from
Olivia Kozemko and a block from
Sidra Triplett and Whitlow. The teams were unable to gain any ground before the Royals scored three straight points to make it 13-10. Queens built on the lead, making it 16-11.
With Newberry looking to extend the match, they were able to flip the switch and were able to gain the lead, making it 19-17 including a 5-0 run. During the run, Whitlow got three terminations while
Zoe Dinkins got two and
Vanessa Blas added the other. Newberry was able to extend the match as Blas was able to tie it up, 24-24 before Queens go the last two points.
Whitlow lead the way on offense with nine kills while Dinkins and Gore each had seven. Kozemko had a double-double 16 assists and 11 assists.
Taylor Garrison also finished with a double-double with 12 digs and 11 assists, respectively.
Triplett had a great night at the net, finishing with five block assists while Whitlow added three block assists. Newberry finished with 14 block assists on the night.
The Wolves wrap-up their regular season tomorrow as they take on Catawba College at 2 p.m.
