NEWBERRY – Newberry will celebrate its seniors Saturday afternoon with a South Atlantic Conference matchup against Catawba. The game will be televised on WAXN in the Charlotte market and on select other stations throughout the country, adding another component to what promises to be an exciting day at Setzler Field.

SERIES HISTORY: Catawba leads 41-37-3, with Newberry holding a 19-15-2 advantage in games played at Setzler Field. Catawba won the 2017 meeting and has taken three of the past four decisions, but Newberry has won eight of the last 13 games in the series.

THIS WEEK'S TOP STORYLINES
- 2018 will mark the 69th consecutive season Newberry and Catawba have met on the gridiron, Newberry's second-longest current uninterrupted series to Lenoir-Rhyne (73 seasons). The teams have met every year since 1950 in a series with its beginnings in 1932.
- Wingate converted each of its last six third downs last Saturday, all coming on the Bulldogs' final three drives. Newberry opponents had converted just 20 of their previous 91 third downs since the fourth quarter at Florida Tech, a conversion rate of 22 percent.
- Newberry's defense has held its eight non-Division I opponents to an average of 91 yards below their total offensive output entering their game with the Wolves. Limestone (279 yards vs. Newberry, average of 322 prior to facing the Wolves) came the closest to reaching its average.
- Over the final 23:36 last Saturday, Wingate ran 30 plays for 215 yards while holding Newberry to 11 yards on 21 snaps and outscored the Wolves 21-3.
- Jamarcus Henderson has 55.5 career tackles for loss, 3.5 from breaking into the top 25 in Division II history. He is second in SAC history in tackles for loss and third with 27 career sacks.
- Joe Blue s 13 tackles against Wingate placed him 10th in school history with 279, two shy of inside linebackers coach Jeremiah Jones for ninth, and is 10th with 25.5 tackles for loss. His 20 tackles at Western Carolina are the fourth-most of any Division II player in 2018.
- David Vereen has 14 passes defended, the 11th-most in Division II in 2018 and the third-most in a single season by a Newberry player since becoming an official statistic in 2000.
- Markell Castle is now second in Newberry history to Tymere Zimmerman (2003-06) in virtually every major receiving category (149 receptions, 2,320 yards, 23 touchdowns, 11 100-yard games). His next 100-yard game will tie the school record.
- Saturday marks the seventh time in the last four seasons the Wolves have had a game broadcast to a television audience (ESPN3 - Wingate 2015 & 2017, Catawba 2016, Citadel 2017; American Sports Network - Wingate 2016; WTVR (Richmond, Va.) - Virginia Union 2017).
