Wolves host make up Mars Hill game

NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's basketball team will host the Lions of Mars Hill to kickoff the conference double-header on Monday, Jan. 8 at 4:00 p.m.

RECORDS: Newberry is 7-6 overall, 2-4 SAC and Mars Hill is 1-14 overall, 0-7 SAC.

NEWBERRY STORYLINES 
                                                               

  • Returned 12 players and added five newcomers; three true freshmen and two collegiate transfers.
  • Newberry was picked to finish fifth in the SAC Preseason Poll.
  • Nicola Handreck reached 1,000 career points on Friday, Nov. 10th against Limestone in the Conference Carolinas-SAC Showdown.
  • Meg Essex needs 57 more blocks this season to tie recent Newberry Hall of Fame inductee, Tiffany Johnson at 225.
  • Essex has five double-doubles on the season to equal eight on her career.
  • Head coach Sean Page needs 31 more wins to reach 200 at Newberry.
  • Against North Greenville Hannah Lepaio and Meg Essex became the first pair of Wolves to record a double-double in 51 weeks. This is Lepaio's first double-double of the season

MARS HILL STORYLINES

  • Picked to round out the South Atlantic Conference 2017-18 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
  • Have a relatively 'young' 15 person roster. Nine freshmen. Two sophomores. Three juniors. One senior.
  • Have one win on the season against Converse on Nov. 11 with a final score of 66-60.
