1. The football team is partnering with Columbia’s Harvest Hope Food Bank to collect donations for Hurricane Harvey relief. Preferred items include: pop top canned goods (soups, pastas, fruit, Spam, etc.), handheld can openers, peanut butter and jelly, water, snacks (cereal bars, Pop-Tarts, protein bars, etc.), baby food/formula, diapers (both adult and baby), feminine hygiene products, and toiletries (tooth paste, tooth brushes, shampoo, etc.). Members of the football team will be collecting donations from fans at all gates prior to Saturday’s game.

2. Newberry’s win at Carson-Newman pushed the Wolves’ school-record South Atlantic Conference winning streak to 11 games, the seventh-longest such streak in league history.

3. Markell Castle had six catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the win in Jefferson City. The junior is now tied for third in school history with six career 100-yard games, is tied for 10th with 11 receiving touchdowns, and now has 1,300 career receiving yards, 112 away from moving into the top 10 all-time.

4. The 12-yard touchdown from Nick Jones to Castle at Carson-Newman marked Newberry’s first opening-drive touchdown since the Limestone game on Nov. 5, 2016.

5. Newberry’s win over Carson-Newman was the first time in school history that a football game has ended with a final score of 25-21. It also marked the 103rd time in program history that a receiver has totaled 100 or more receiving yards but is the only time a receiver (Castle) has finished with exactly 100 yards.

6. Newberry’s defense has not allowed a 200-yard passer or a 100-yard receiver since Shawheem Dowdy threw for 208 yards and Lavatiae Kelly totaled 116 receiving in Newberry’s 42- 22 win over Virginia Union on Sept. 10, 2016, a span of 14 games. Newberry quarterbacks have accounted for 11 200-yard games and seven receivers have reached triple figures in that span.

7. The Wolves have won eight of their last nine regular-season home games dating back to a 41-7 win over Brevard on Oct. 24, 2015.

8. UNC Pembroke is in the first season of a four-year scheduling agreement with South Atlantic Conference schools. All eight SAC schools will play the Braves each season from 2017-2020 in nonconference matchups that will not count in the SAC standings.

9. Kevin Weber has kicked the South Atlantic Conference’s second-longest field goal this season. His 45-yarder against VUL, Newberry’s longest in 17 years, has been eclipsed only by a 51-yard field goal by Limestone’s Nick Smith this season.
