NEWBERRY — Newberry and Converse entered halftime deadlocked at a goal apiece in a nonconference contest at Setzler Field Wednesday night, but a three-goal outburst in a five-minute span of the second half propelled Newberry to a 4-2 win and lifted the Wolves above the .500 mark on the season.

Firing on all cylinders, six different Newberry (3-2, 1-1) players had shots, placing eight of their 14 attempts for the evening on frame. 

Sophomore Brady Keeler entered the contest riding a two-game scoring streak and left it scoring two of Newberry's goals to bring her season total up to six. Keeler's first goal sparked a Newberry offensive outburst that turned a tied game at the 44:59 mark into a 4-1 blowout five minutes and 18 seconds later.

Her first goal came off an assist by sophomore Kristyna Oyola from 15 yards out by the left post that allowed Newberry to regain the lead. Keeler's second goal came less than three minutes later as she intercepted a bad Converse pass and beat the keeper one on one from five yards out to double the Wolves' lead.

Five minutes after helping Keeler score, Oyola scored her first goal of the season. She positioned herself near the post and turned on the keeper to score.

In addition to Keeler and Oyola, Chantel Gauthier, Farai Kawonde, Megan Eisenhardt, and Haley Smith were all active offensively for the Wolves each recording a shot in tonight's contest.

Freshman Farai Kawonde notched her first career goal in the 12th minute of the game to give Newberry a 1-0 lead. She was positioned from about 10 yards out on the left wing and scored through traffic for her first goal of the season.  

Before the period ended, Converse's (0-5) Madison Conlon fired back with a goal of her own to tie the game up before the half at 1-1.

As the second period came to a close Converse's Marina Montes-Nino scored on a deflection off the right post of the goal and was assisted by Flore Samsi.   

The Wolves stay home to face the Royals of Queens University Sunday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m.
