Women's Tennis Topped by No. 33 Wingate

CAYCE, S.C. – The Newberry women’s tennis team was dropped 6-3 by Wingate on Thursday morning at the Cayce Tennis Center. Wingate is ranked No. 5 in the Southeast Region and No. 33 in the nation.


Wingate (11-2, 7-0 SAC) took two of three doubles matches to begin the day against Newberry (12-8, 4-4 SAC). Elizabeth Williamson and Amanda Carrillo were victorious 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles slot. The duo currently has 14 doubles wins this season, including nine of the last 10.


Williamson won her singles match at No. 1, 6-4, 6-4. Carrillo scored a hard-fought 7-6, 2-6, 10-6 win at No. 2 singles. Carrillo is 7-1 in South Atlantic Conference matches this season.


Newberry hosts Anderson (13-3, 6-1 SAC) at the Cayce Tennis Center on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
