GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The Newberry women’s tennis team was defeated by South Atlantic Conference-leading Tusculum 8-1 Saturday morning at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
Newberry (12-7, 4-3 SAC) was swept by Tusculum (12-4, 7-0 SAC) in doubles play. The Pioneers are ranked No. 9 in the Southeast Region and No. 39 in the nation.
Elizabeth Williamson won her 15th singles match of the season at No. 1 singles, edging out a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory. Lucia Davia dropped a hard fought 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) decision at No. 4 singles.
Newberry will host Wingate (9-1, 6-0 SAC) at the Cayce Tennis Center on Thursday. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
