Newberry tripped up by Young Harris in non-conference play

Young Harris, Ga. – Newberry women’s lacrosse failed to overcome an early deficit as they were defeated by Young Harris on Wednesday afternoon by a final of 22-4.

 

The Mountain Lions opened up the game with four goals in the first 7:16 and then extended that lead to nine before Rachel Dillon then ripped her 35th goal of the season for Newberry. Dillon sits at second in the South Atlantic Conference in goals this season.

 

Moments later, Naomi Killian and Maddie Campbell went back-to-back, scoring goals less than 90 seconds apart to bring the Wolves within striking distance.

 

Young Harris would shut down the Newberry offense early in the second half, creating chances of their own to put the game out of reach.

 

Killian finished the evening with two goals for Newberry giving the Lilburn, Ga. native a total of 14 on the season.

 

Brandy Bowman finished the game with nine saves pushing her season total to 134. Bowman, who hails from Irvine, Calif., has 47 more saves than the next closest goalkeeper in the league. She also ranks first in all of Division II Lacrosse in saves and saves per game.

 

Newberry will continue their three-game road trip next week when they face conference opponent Brevard. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
