CAYCE, S.C. – The Newberry women’s tennis team rolled to its sixth-straight win after defeating Mars Hill 8-1 Thursday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis Center.
Newberry (11-3, 3-0 SAC) swept through doubles play over Mars Hill (4-8, 0-6 SAC). Elizabeth Willamson and Amanda Carrillo notched their eighth consecutive win as doubles pairing with an 8-5 win. Rebeca Martinez and Kelly McManus scored a 9-7 decision, while Veronika Viegas and Lucia Davia closed out doubles play with the 8-6 win.
Williamson recorded her 12th-straight singles victory, dispatching her opponent 6-4, 6-1. Carrillo won her match at No. 2 by a 6-4, 6-3 final, while Martinez notched a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3. Davia swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0, and Viegas closed out the match for Newberry with the 6-0, 6-2 win.
Newberry will be back in action on March 16 against Division I foe Presbyterian (9-3). Match time is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
