Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – An RBI single by Chase Coker in the top of the 17th inning proved to be the difference in a lengthy affair with Augusta University on Wednesday afternoon.
Colin Allman began the 17th with a single to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch with one out. Coker then laced a single into center to score Allman and provide the difference. The Jaguars went down in order in the bottom of the inning as Barrett Walton earned a save.
The Wolves jumped ahead with five runs in the third inning on run-scoring hits by Daymon Totherow, Trejon Smith, Jeff Sneed, and Derek Olenchuk. But Augusta roared back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to knot the score at 6-6.
A sparkling defensive play from shortstop Robert Kosch kept the game alive in the 15th. With one out and a runner on third, Kosch fielded a ground ball and came home with the throw. Sneed applied the tag to keep the Jaguars off the board and extend the game.
A Smith RBI single to score an unearned run in the 16th was countered by a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the frame to send the game to the 17th.
Newberry used 23 players, including six pitchers, in the five-hour, 38-minute affair.
