AIKEN, S.C. – The Newberry women’s tennis team was defeated by USC Aiken 8-1 on Monday in non-conference action at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex. The Pacers are ranked No. 6 in the region and No. 30 nationally.

The Pacers (1-1) defeated the Wolves (4-2) in all three doubles matches to open the match by scores of 8-5, 8-2 and 8-2.

USC Aiken continued its strong play against Newberry in singles action, taking five of the six flights in straight sets.

Elizabeth Williamson collected the Wolves' only win of the day at No. 2 singles, a 7-6, 6-2 win over USC Aiken’s Olivera Veskovac.

Williamson improved her record to 4-0 on the season in singles play.

Newberry will face-off against North Greenville (0-3) on Thursday. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Wolves defeated the Crusaders 5-4 on Sept. 24.
