CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Newberry women’s tennis team swept Johnson C. Smith 9-0 Sunday afternoon in the final non-conference match of the season. Newberry moves to 9-3 while Johnson C. Smith falls to 0-5.

Newberry swept through doubles play over the Golden Bulls. Amanda Carrillo and Elizabeth Williamson scored an 8-1 win at No. 1. Lucia Davia and Rebeca Martinez as well as Marta Gomar and Kelly McManus recorded 8-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

The Wolves dominated singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Williamson won her tenth straight match, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Carrillo, Martinez and Davia all took 6-0, 6-0 decisions at No’s. 2-4 singles. McManus scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Veronika Viegas closed out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Newberry will return to conference play Tuesday against Catawba (8-2, 1-2 SAC). Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
