HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Newberry women’s tennis team opened up South Atlantic Conference play with a 7-2 victory over Coker.

Newberry is now 8-3 overall, 1-0 SAC while Coker drops to 2-2 overall, 1-1 SAC.

The Wolves swept doubles play over Coker. Elizabeth Williamson and Amanda Carrillo were 8-1 winners at No. 1 while Rebeca Martinez and Lucia Davia grabbed an 8-3 win at No. 2. Kelly McManus and Marta Gomar recorded an 8-6 victory at No. 3.

Newberry took four of six singles matches. Williamson recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 for her ninth win of the season. Carrillo scored a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 and Gomar dropped her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No 3. Martinez rounded out the scoring with an 8-5 win at No. 4.

Newberry will host Catawba (8-2) on Tuesday. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
