Newberry Defeats Limestone, 5-3

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Newberry women’s tennis team defeated Limestone 5-3 on Friday afternoon at the Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Center. The Wolves move to 6-3 on the season while Limestone drops to 0-3.


Newberry began the day by winning two of the three doubles matches. Amanda Carrillo and Elizabeth Williamson were 8-3 winners at No. 1. Marta Gomar and Kelly McManus recorded an 8-5 win at No. 3. Carrillo and Williamson move to 4-1 on the season as a doubles pairing.


The Wolves took decisions at the No. 1-No. 3 singles flights. Williamson, the reigning AstroTurf SAC Women’s Tennis Player of Week, won her match at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3. She is now 7-0 in singles play this season.


Carrillo scored a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 and Gomar closed out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3. McManus’ match at No. 6 singles went unfinished.


Newberry will face Benedict (2-2) tomorrow in a non-conference match. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
