GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Newberry women’s tennis team was downed 7-2 Sunday afternoon by Lander at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Amanda Carrillo and Elizabeth Williamson were 8-4 winners at the No. 1 doubles position to secure a point for Newberry (5-3). Lander (1-0) was victorious in the two remaining doubles matches.

Williamson won her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles as the only winner for the Wolves in singles play. Williamson moves to 6-0 on the season in singles matches. Rebeca Martinez dropped a tough-fought 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 decision at No. 4.

Newberry will travel to Limestone (0-1) on Friday. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
