NEWBERRY – The Newberry women’s tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to Erskine in its spring opener on Wednesday afternoon at the Sloan Tennis Courts.

The Flying Fleet held a slim 2-1 lead after the opening doubles matches. The Wolves were led by the No. 1 doubles team of Elizabeth Williamson and Amanda Carrillo, who scored an 8-5 victory.

Williamson also won at the No. 2 singles position 6-1, 6-1. Rebecca Martinez tallied the final point for Newberry at No. 4 singles, 7-6, 0-6, 1-0.  The Wolves also dropped last season’s match to Erskine by a score of 6-3.

Newberry will travel to USC Aiken (0-1) on Saturday. The non-conference tilt is scheduled to begin at Noon.
