NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's basketball team will open their season at the Conference Carolinas-SAC Showdown against Limestone on Friday afternoon in Belmont, N.C hosted by the Belmont Abbey Crusaders. The Wolves will then square off with the host Crusaders on Saturday evening in a true road game.

NEWBERRY STORYLINES
- Returned 12 players and added five newcomers; three true freshmen and two collegiate tranfers.
- Newberry picked to finish fifth in the SAC Preseason Poll.
- Nicola Handreck enters the 2017-2018 season 19 points away from 1,000 career points.
- Meg Essex needs 77 blocks this season to tie recent Newberry Hall of Fame inductee, Tiffany Johnson at 225.

LIMESTONE STORYLINES
- The Saints are coming off a 27-5 season with an 21-1 conference record.
- Last season, Limestone won against Pfeiffer (69-52) and Barton (83-61) the Conference Carolinas Tournament, and lost the final game against King (78-77).
- The Saints are favorited to win the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship with 89 points and eight first-place votes.
- Notable returners: Two All-Conference senior guards Jasmine Richardson and Keidra Smith.
