Newberry will travel to face No. 14 Wingate

Two teams split the season series last season 1-1

NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's basketball team will travel to take on No. 14 ranked Wingate on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 6:00 p.m. 


WHO:  Newberry College vs. Wingate University
WHERE: Cuddy Arena, Wingate, N.C. 
WHEN: 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29
RECORDS: Newberry is 5-2 and Wingate is 4-1. This will serve as Wingate's first conference game.

NEWBERRY STORYLINES 
                                                               

  • Returned 12 players and added five newcomers; three true freshmen and two collegiate tranfers.
  • Newberry was picked to finish fifth in the SAC Preseason Poll.
  • Nicola Handreck reached 1,000 career points on Friday, Nov. 10th against Limestone in the Conference Carolinas-SAC Showdown.
  • Meg Essex needs 67 more blocks this season to tie recent Newberry Hall of Fame inductee, Tiffany Johnson at 225.
  • Essex has two double-doubles on the season to equal five on her career.
  • Head Coach Sean Page needs 33 more wins to reach 200 at Newberry.
  • Shelby Britten hasn't scored less than 15 points in any game so far.

WINGATE STORYLINES

  • Ended 2016-2017 season with a 26-6 overall record and won its ninth South Atlantic Conference Tournament.
  • Lost to #13 LMU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament 85-66.
  • Marta Miscenko was named to the D2CCa All-Southeast Region Second Team from CoSIDA.
  • The Bulldogs are slated to take the SAC with seven first place votes.
