Five Wolves tally double figures in tournament win

NEWBERRY - The Wolves saw a total team effort with five players - Marshall Lange, James Stepp, Rob Valentine, Xavier Hill, and Jamaal Satisfield - notching double figures in their tight 101-94 victory.

Lange scored a team-high 19 points in the contest, his third straight posting double figures. He also accounted for six rebounds, four steals, and two assists.


Both teams battled from the start as Voorhees took a quick 9-3 lead to start the game, their largest of the night. A pair of threes from Hill and Sikander Nielsen a jumper from Valentine tied the game at 11 apiece. The rest of the first half saw four ties and neither team led by more than six points during the entirety of the half. Stepp made a jump shot to give Newberry a 42-41 lead, the final lead change in a game that saw six ties and 13 lead changes.

Stepp returned to the floor after missing the game against Bob Jones and posted a season-high 18 points, with half of those coming in the first 20 minutes of play. He also had a team-high four assists.

Newberry continued to outshoot the Tigers from the floor during the second half, knocking down 17 field goals. A three from Jabrie Bullard gave them their largest lead of the night with 15 points and the Wolves were able to cruise to a 101-94 win.

 

Valentine continued his monster senior campaign notching his fourth straight game with double figures. He currently ranks fifth in the South Atlantic Conference in points per game with an average of 19.0.


The Wolves trailed in rebounds and assists, but forced 18 Voorhees turnovers on the night.


Newberry remains perfect on the season as they return to Eleazer Arena to face Virginia State in the tournament championship on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2:00 p.m.
