Newberry finishes 11th in SAC Championship

Wolves are set to compete in NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Nov. 4

NEWTON, N.C. –Newberry's cross country teams finished 11th overall in the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning. The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears were the hosts of the women's 5k and men's 8k at Southside Park.


Queens University of Charlotte swept both events, as their women's team kept their title of SAC Champions.


For the women, Hayden Francis finished in 40th position with a time of 20:05.26. Michelle Ling (21:41.92), Anne Bouwkamp (22:28.35), Brittani Barratt (22:45.24), Claudia Cannon (22:46.74), Diana Gutierrez (22:47.47), Rebecca Burkhart (22:56.89), Katy Crout (23:09.18), and Alyssa White (24:11.07) were all other finishers for the Wolves.


As a team, their total time was 1:49:47.52 with an average of 21:57.51.


Caleb Bouwkamp led the way for Newberry placing 49th with a time of 27:31.77. Other runners for the Wolves included Quinn Wilson (28:00.01), Shelton Reynolds (28:39.16), Carlos Hernandez (28:43.32), Jorge Hernandez (28:54.67), and Justin Oglesby (31:41.80).


Their total time came in at 2:21.48.93 with an average of 28:21.79.


Newberry will compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional hosted by Wingate in Wingate, N.C. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
