Wolves tip-off 2017 at Lenoir-Rhyne

NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's basketball team will tip-off the 2017 season on Wednesday as they head to Hickory, N.C. to take on Lenoir-Rhyne.

NEWBERRY STORYLINES

The Wolves have had at least three starters in double figures in eight of the 10 games this season

Newberry holds a 6-1 home record.

Newberry is 3rd in the conference in points per game allowed at 60.1.

Four Newberry starters are averaging at least 10 points a game.

Meg Essex is tied for first in the SAC with 25 blocks. Essex tied a career high vs. Wingate on Nov. 30 with 7 blocks. She added 4 in a win vs. Mars Hill.

LENOIR-RHYNE STORYLINES

The Bears are coming off a 12-15 season with an 11-11 conference record.

Lenoir-Rhyne fell to Anderson in the SAC Championship Quarterfinals last season.

The Bears were tabbed to finish 7th in the SAC Preseason Poll.

Lenoir-Rhyne did not have any players named to Women’s Preseason All-Conference.

Lenoir-Rhyne ranks first in the SAC in points per game allowed at 49.0.

The Bears also rank No. 1 in the conference in opponent field goal and three pt. percentage.
