Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Bellarmine (4-3, 1-0 ECAC) defeated the Newberry College field hockey team (1-4, 0-2 ECAC) 7-1 Friday afternoon at O.B. Frazier Stadium.
The Knights opened the game scoring two quick goals in the first five minutes of the contest. Caitlyn Warren notched a shot on goal at 7:36 in the first half after Kristyna Oyola’s penalty corner. Bellarmine’s Katie Jo Hollkamp scored her first goal of the season at the 19:00 mark. The Knights added another goal before the halftime whistle to lead at the break 4-0. Dakota Elzy recorded two saves in the first half.
Allison Davis saw her first action of the season in net for the Wolves. She played the entire second half and recorded a save. Katie Thompson recorded a great defensive save at the 46:09 mark to keep the Knights off the board.
Warren recorded her third goal of the season in the 65th minute off a penalty corner by Jessica Cooke. This marks Cooke’s first career collegiate assist.
The Wolves had a flurry of chances towards the end of the contest following two penalty corners. Bellarmine tallied three goals in the second half to defeat Nebwerry 7-1. The Knights are 7-0 all-time against the Wolves.
Newberry plays again tomorrow when they travel to St. Charles, Mo. to take on Lindenwood (3-1, 0-0 ECAC). Game time is scheduled for Noon.
