HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions scored three of the contest's first four goals inside the opening 10 minutes of play as Emmanuel found the net on each of its first three shots. Killian cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal at 19:08, but Emmanuel scored five of the next six markers and led by an 8-3 count with 8:38 to go in the opening period.

Newberry went on a surge and netted three straight goals with Baxtrom, Ajahna Grosvenor and Kahler finding the back of the net to cut the lead to 8-6 with 5:28 to go.

Emmanuel responded with its own surge, scoring three straight on either side of the halftime horn, roaring out to a 14-6 advantage with 18:30 remaining in the contest.

Baxtrom stopped the Lions' run with a goal at the 18:05 mark and Newberry would allow only one more goal to their guests in the remainder of the game. Emmanuel did not take a shot in the final 13:48.

Killian, Maddie Campbell and Kahler cut the lead to 15-10 with 4:25 to go, but the two ensuing goals from Baxtrom would only serve to narrow the Lions' margin of victory. After being outscored by five goals in the first half, Newberry outpaced the Lions by two goals in the second half, but EC goalie Emma Pow made five saves in the final half hour.
