Box Score KODAK, Tenn.- In day one of the elimination round, the Newberry College baseball team dropped to the Eagles of Carson-Newman 3-0, on Friday afternoon.
Despite the loss, Newberry will play No. 6 Wingate tomorrow at noon in the elimination game at Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tennessee.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Newberry only tallied seven hits on 31 at-bats. Danton Hyman (Prosperity, S.C.) went 2-4 while Nolan Schrenker (Valrico, Fla.) went 1-1. Derek Olenchuk (Irmo, S.C.) and Jacob Bass (North Augusta, S.C.) both went 1-3, Daymon Totherow (Danville, Va.) went 1-5 and Jeff Sneed (Cumming, Ga.) went 1-4.
- Zack Kelly (Daleville, Va.) tallied eight strikeouts and gave up three runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings for the loss. Hunter Hill (Little Mountain, S.C.) logged 1.2 innings giving up one hit and walking one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles started the scoring off in the second inning with two runs. Brendan Campbell singled to right center sending Ian Pung home before Ryan Addington singled through the left side sending Eric Lynch.
The score was locked at 2-0 in favor of the Eagles until the bottom of the seventh when Addington scored on Pung’s walk.
Newberry struggled to get any runs on the board, giving Carson-Newman the 3-0 win.
