Grosvenor notches hat trick as Wolves end season in loss at No. 15 Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves' women's lacrosse team closed out its 2016 season Saturday, as senior Ajahna Grosvenor netted a hat trick in an 18-4 loss at No. 15 Queens.

The Wolves end their season with an overall record of 5-11 and a 1-7 South Atlantic Conference record. Queens completes the regular season at 14-2 overall and claims the SAC regular season title at 8-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Grosvenor scored her third hat trick of her senior campaign to close out her career.
  • Maddie Campbell scored for the Wolves.
  • Campbell, Grosvenor and Rachel Dillon each picked up two ground balls.
  • Brandy Bowman made eight saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The nationally-ranked Royals took off early, scoring the game's first four goals. Grosvenor netted Newberry's opening goal at the 22:55 mark. By the halfway point of the opening period, Queens had pushed its lead to 9-1.

Grosvenor scored again at the 13:00 mark. Queens held a 15-2 advantage at halftime. Grosvenor scored the opening goal of the second half at the 27:22 mark of the period.

Queens scored three goals consecutively before Campbell closed out the game with a goal on an assist from Jessica Baxtrom with six minutes to play.

SENIOR STATISTICAL NOTES

Ajahna Grosvenor scored 57 goals and passed out six assists in her four-year career at Newberry. She also picked up 71 draw controls and 70 ground balls.

Jessica Baxtrom leaves the program as the career leader in points (150) and goals (117) and second in assists (33).

Morgan Raffaele is second all-time at Newberry in ground balls (145) and sixth in ground balls (38). She played goalkeeper for her first three years at Newberry and her 372 career saves are the most in program history.

Majorie Anderson ranks 10th in program history in minutes played to end her career.
