Wolves head to Hartsville for regular season finale against Coker

HARTSVILLE- The Newberry College baseball team wraps up their regular season schedule with a three-game series against the Cobras of Coker College this weekend. The first game will be played at 3 p.m. on Friday followed by a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT FOR NEWBERRY
Charlie Fessler (Summerville, S.C.) picked up his first win of the season as the team ended non-conference play with a 7-4 win over Lander University, on Wednesday night. 

Daymon Totherow (Danville, S.C.) scored two runs while Michael Gonzalez (Wilsonville, S.C.),Jeff Sneed (Cumming, Ga.),  JoJo Bradley (Spartanburg, S.C.), and Robert Kosch (Clemson, S.C.) all scored one run each. Trejon Smith (Fredricksburg, Va.) went 3-for-5 at the dish, scored one run and drove one in. 

Danton Hyman (Prosperity, S.C.) and Derek Olenchuk (Irmo, S.C.) drove in two runners each while Sneed and Bradley drove in one each. Hyman got the start with five innings on the bump. Hyman gave up four runs and five hits while tallying four strikeouts. Fessler logged 1.2 innings tallying one strikeout for the win while Hunter Hill (Little Mountain, S.C.) gave up one hit and tallied two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Marshall Rentz (Charleston, S.C.) got his fifth save of the season logging one inning.

LAST MEETING WITH COKER
Last season the Wolves swept Coker by the following scores: 8-2, 7-6 (10 innings) and 2-0. 

In game one, Wesley Camp went eight complete innings and scattered seven hits, allowing one run while striking out eight batters. He did not allow a walk en route to earning his eighth win of the season (8-2). Mike DeLee (Dorchester, S.C.) came on in the ninth to finish out the game and allowed one run on two hits, struck out three and walked one.

In game two, Daniel Nations (Central, S.C.) came on to throw the tenth and logged a 1-2-3 inning before a leadoff walk to Kirby in the bottom of the frame spelled disaster for Coker. Nations earned the win in one inning of work to improve to 3-1 on the year. Albert Baur, Brandan Sheridan and Sneed all tagged three hits each while Bradley had two and drove in a pair.

In game three, Cole Cromer as he picked up his eighth win (8-3) of the year while also tallying his second complete game shutout of the season. The right-hander needed just 91 pitches to retire the 21 Coker batters, striking out eight and allowing only four hits. Sneed led all hitters with a 3-for-3 effort that included a pair of doubles and a RBI while D.J. Martinez was 2-for-3 and scored a run

SCOUTING COKER
Coker (27-17, 11-10 SAC) picked up an 11-9 win over visiting UNC Pembroke on Tuesday (April 19). AJ Strnad and Will Winslow each tallied four hits in the win, along with Jack Leech's 3-4 day with four RBI's. Darius Coldiron collected two hits, while Colton Henthorne, Thomas Lopez and Miguel Frias each chipped in one. JT Whritner earned his first win of the year in the contest.
