Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves held an early lead, but a five-goal surge by the homestanding Lees-McRae Bobcats doomed the scarlet and gray to a 19-11 defeat at Tate Field on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, Newberry drops to 5-9 overall entering Saturday's 5 p.m. home finale against Catawba.

- Rachel Dillon led the Wolves with four goals, also picking up three ground balls and causing a turnover.
- Jessica Baxtrom and Ajahna Grosvenor each netted three goals in the game, with Savannah Ohliger scoring once.
- Majorie Anderson picked up a team-high four ground balls.
- Brandy Bowman made eight saves.
- Newberry was outshot by a 31-19 margin. LMC's Peyton LeCompte scored seven goals and dished out an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Bobcats opened the scoring with two quick goals, the Wolves responded by going on a three-goal run. Dillon scored twice and Grosvenor's goal at the 21:16 mark put Newberry up by a 3-2 margin.
Neither team scored for nearly eight minutes from there, but Jenah Tracy's marker for the Bobcats started a 5-0 run that would put the hosts up 7-3 with eight minutes left in the first half. Newberry outscored Lees-McRae 3-2 down the stretch with Dillon, Baxtrom and Ohliger netting goals to make it a 9-6 Lees-McRae lead at halftime.
The two sides traded goals coming out of the break before Lees-McRae scored six straight goals to surge out to a 16-7 lead with 15 minutes left to play. Goals by Baxtrom and Dillon avoided the running clock, but Newberry managed only six shots in the final 25 minutes.
