HOW IT HAPPENED
Newberry cracked open the scoring on a Baxtrom shot from a free position less than a minute into the contest. The Wolves would go on to score the game's opening four goals in the first 11 minutes of play. Kahler scored both of her goals in the early 4-0 surge.
With 7:49 to play in the first half, an Ohliger goal made Newberry's lead 6-1, which would be the largest for either team in the contest. UVa-Wise scored twice in the closing minutes of the half to narrow that lead to 6-3.
Those two goals would carry momentum over into the second have for the Highland Cavs, as it kickstarted a 7-0 run for Wise. The opposition kept the Wolves off of the scoreboard for the first 13 and a half minutes of the second half and flipped the lead to a 8-6 edge for the Cavs.
Back-to-back goals from Ajahna Grosvenor and Baxtrom tied the game up at 8-8 with 16:09 to play. UVa-Wise then went on another surge, scoring three straight goals while holding Newberry off of the tally sheet until Rachel Dillon found the net at the 3:23 mark to make it an 11-9 UVa-Wise edge.
Dillon's shot attempt at the 2:08 mark was saved and a UVa-Wise clearance attempt would be good, allowing the Cavs to stall and run the clock to zeroes and hand Newberry a loss.
