Wolves take third straight win with 15-5 rout at Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves scored the game's first six goals on the way to a 15-5 rout of Chowan at Hawks Field on Monday afternoon.

The Wolves win their third straight to move to 4-1 on the season entering a Tuesday 2 p.m. neutral site match vs. UVa-Wise at Chowan.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Rachel Dillon notched five goals and two assists as one of three Wolves to record hat tricks.
  • Jessica Baxtrom scored four goals and dished out an assists, while Kylee Shoop scored three goals and had an assist.
  • Shoop also picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers.
  • Brandy Bowman made  six saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Newberry scored just 16 seconds into the contest as the Hawks played a man down for the entire contest. The Wolves scored on six of their first eight shots and were already up 6-0 by the time Chowan managed to get its first shot on goal.

The Wolves took a 10-2 advantage into the halftime break thanks to three goals in the final three and a half minutes of the period.

Chowan scored off the draw control to start the second half and scored the first three goals of the second half to cut the lead to 10-5 at the 23:19 mark.

Newberry kept the Hawks off the board for the rest of the contest and closed the game on a 5-0 run. Newberry kept Chowan from taking a shot for nearly 19 minutes until Bowman saved the last shot of the game with 30 seconds to play.
