Box Score 2 NEWBERRY- The Newberry College baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University, 6-0 and 6-2, respectively.
With the losses, the Wolves fall to 14-7-1 overall and 2-4 in South Atlantic Conference play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Game 1
-Trejon Smith led the Wolves at the plate going 2-for-4 while Daymon Totherow went 1-for-3.
- Zack Kelly took the loss for Newberry pitching 6.0 innings. Kelly gave up six hits and one run while tallying four strikeouts. Robert Westenrieder logged 0.2 innings giving up two runs and two hits while Christian Pope logged 1.0 innings giving up three runs and two hits.
- Tyler Fuhr ended the game for Newberry pitching 1.1 innings, giving up three hits.
Game 2
- Danton Hyman went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored one run while Tommy Passerello went 1-for-3 and scored one run. Smith and JoJo Bradley both drove in one run each for the Wolves.
- Hunter Hill logged 5.1 innings on the bump, giving up seven hits and six runs. Hill tallied the loss and one strikeout. Marshall Rentz pitched 1.2 innings and gave up three hits, while tallying two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The Wolves struggled offensively putting up any runs on the board.
All six runs came from the Lincoln Memorial dugout with Kalman scoring the first run in the second. Hunt then scored in the seventh when Augustine doubled down the first base line. Augustine was then sent home when Kalman doubled to left field in the seventh.
LMU scored its last three runs in the eighth innings. Rodriguez scored the first run of the inning when he stole home. Valdez then scored on Dillard’s single to right center before Dillard was sent home on Kalman’s single to right field.
Game 2
The Railsplitters scored three runs in the second inning with Neiderland scoring the first run. Ewers and Clark then scored on Valdez’s single to left field to close out the second inning. Augustine scored the lone run in the third when Neiderland flew out to center field.
Newberry didn’t get on the board until the third inning where they had a to catch up to a 4-0 lead from LMU. Passerello scored the first run when Smith reached on a fielder’s choice.
Newberry tacked its last run of the game in the fifth inning when Hyman scored.
The Railslpitters scored the last run of the game in the sixth when Ewers homered to left field.
