HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolves started off on fire, scoring four goals in the first four and a half minutes. Shoop scored less than a minute into the game and by the time 20 minutes had passed, Newberry was up 7-1.
The Firebirds scored most of their goals from free position opportunities in a foul-heavy game, including the first goal of the second half to cut the Newberry lead to 9-3.
Baxtrom scored two of the first three goals for the Wolves in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Those goals gave Newberry a 12-3 advantage, but the running clock rule was never enforced as UDC scored three straight to cut the lead to 12-6.
An impressive Helen Kuhn goal on the fast break stopped the scoring run and goals by Olivia Knight and Baxtrom in the final minutes put a cap on the win.
