Wolves pile up bonus points in 48-3 rout of Belmont Abbey

NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves rolled to a 48-3 win over visiting Belmont Abbey in Eleazer Arena on Monday night to set up a de facto ECAC championship match later this week.

Newberry moves to 15-2 overall and 4-0 in ECAC action. This ties the Wolves with UNC Pembroke at 4-0 in conference play. Newberry visits Pembroke this Thursday at 7 p.m., with the winner of the dual in the driver's seat for the first-ever conference championship.

The Wolves piled up bonus points throughout the night as they won nine of the 10 bouts. With forfeit wins at 125 and 157 lbs., Newberry earned 12 free points.

Jordan Simpson won by a 14-1 major decision at 133 lbs. and Nick Lankford cruised to another win by technical fall at 141 lbs. Dyllan Greene was edged by decision at 149 lbs, which would be the final takedown conceded by the Wolves all night.

Lukas Gilmore cruised to a 17-0 technical fall at 165 lbs. and Nick Young picked up a 9-0 major decision win at 174 lbs.

The Wolves picked up wins by fall in the final three bouts. Huston Evans and Cody Brundage won by fall in the first period at 184 and 197 lbs., followed by a late win at heavyweight by Mike Kennedy to close out the big win.
