Box Score NEWBERRY - The Newberry College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-2 win over the St. Andrews Knights in its season opener at Setzler Field on Saturday.
Newberry moves to 1-0 on the year, winning its season opener for the first time in the program's five-year history.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Newberry scored the game's first 11 goals
- The Wolves outshot the Knights 31-11, with 27 shots on goal
- Jessica Baxtrom and Ajahna Grosvenor led the Wolves with four goals apiece, with Baxtrom picking up a pair of assists.
- Olivia Knight dished out six assists, as 14 of the Wolves' 21 goals were assisted.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolves needed less than a minute and a half to open their account for the season on Grosvenor's season-opening goal at the 28:32 mark. Newcomer Helen Kuhn scored the Wolves' next two goals as Newberry scored six goals in the first 10 minutes.
Less than nine minutes later, the running clock came into play as Maddie Campbell scored goal number 10 with 11:13 left in the first half. Grosvenor closed the Wolves' first half scoring with seven seconds left in the period as the scarlet and gray took a 12-1 lead into the break.
Newberry outscored the Knights 9-1 in the second half on the way to the largest margin of victory in program history.
