Wolves open Round Robin with 4-2 win against Brevard

NEWBERRY- The Newberry College baseball team improved to 6-1-1 after defeating Brevard College 4-2, on Friday night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Robert Kosch (Clemson, S.C.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring one run. JoJo Bradley (Spartanburg, S.C.) went 1-for-2, scoring one run while Jacob Bass (North Augusta, S.C.) went 2-for-3 and scored one run.
  • Derek Olenchuk (Irmo, S.C.) went 1-for-2 at the plate, scoring one run and driving in one while Trejon Smith (Fredricksburg, Va.) went 2-for-4 and drove in two.
  • Mike DeLee (Dorchester, S.C.) took the win for Newberry on the bump, pitching 3.0 innings. DeLee only gave up two hits and tallied three strikeouts.
  • Daniel Nations (Central, S.C.) started the game pitching 6.0 innings. Nations gave up five hits and two runs while striking out nine.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Olenchuk put the Wolves on the board in the second inning when Totherow sent him home on a RBI single to left center. Brevard tied the game in the fourth at 1-1 when Morrison’s single pushed Smith home. Brevard then took the lead in the next at-bat with Proffitt scoring off Quinn’s single to left center.

Newberry didn’t score again until the sixth inning when Bradley crossed home plate on Olenchuk’s sacrifice fly to right field. The Wolves put two more on the board in the eighth inning to take the 4-2 win. Kosch and Bass both scored off Smith’s single to left center.

UP NEXT
The Wolves play King on Saturday, February 13 at 6 p.m at Smith Road Complex. Newberry will end the tournament with a game on Sunday, February 14 against Young Harris at 3:30 p.m.
