Newberry Has Winning Streak Snapped Against Tusculum

GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The Newberry College volleyball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped as Tusculum defeated the Wolves 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-14) Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Arena.


Logan Hayward notched 15 kills for Newberry (17-11, 14-6 SAC). Maggie Marsh dished out 24 assists and Kensley Jordan tallied 13 digs.


The first set started out even as the two teams were tied at 10-10. Tusculum (12-16, 7-13 SAC) took a 14-11 lead before a kill by Marsh tied the set at 16-16. The Pioneers used a 9-3 run to win the first set, 25-19.


Tusculum took a 5-1 lead early in the second set. Madison Darby-McClure’s kill tied the set at 6-6. The Pioneers then went on an 11-2 run to lead 17-8. Newberry pulled within five points of Tusculum twice but eventually lost set two by a score of 25-19.


The Pioneers controlled set three early, leading 10-3. Newberry trailed 13-7 after a Tusculum attack error. Newberry could not put together a rally as TC took set three 25-14 and the match 3-0.


Sarah Bouley had 15 kills to lead Tusculum. Shannon Murphy and Hallie Zumack each had 18 assists. Cassie Born and Megan Yopko tallied 14 digs apiece.


Newberry returns home to Eleazer Arena for the final weekend of the regular season next Friday against Queens (19-5, 16-3 SAC). The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
