Newberry completes perfect weekend with 32-8 win over No. 14 Findlay

HARTSVILLE - The Newberry Wolves wrapped up a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Super Region II Duals on Saturday, taking eight bouts on the way to a 32-8 upset of the No. 14 Findlay Roughnecks.

Newberry moves to 13-2 in dual action this season with four ECAC Division II Wrestling League duals left on the schedule. The Wolves host Limestone on Thursday, February 4, at 7 p.m. in Eleazer Arena.

Two of Newberry's eight wins were upsets according to the regional rankings, marked especially by a 9-6 decision at 141 lbs. for Nick Lankford over Ryan Skonieczny, who is ranked fifth regionally. At 157 lbs., Alex Rice earned a 7-3 decision over Joey White, ranked second in the region. Neither Lankford or Rice are regionally ranked, though that may change based on the results of this weekend.

The match started off in great fashion for Newberry, with Trung Duong and Jordan Simpson each picking up 14-1 major decision victories, followed by Lankford's win to push the early lead to 11-0.

Lukas Gilmore earned a big win by technical fall at 165 lbs. and Huston Evans won by fall with a takedown straight to the back just 10 seconds before the end of the match while working on a major decision. Mike Kennedy closed the match with a 3-2 decision at 285 lbs.
