Wolves dominant in 51-0 shutout of Anderson

HARTSVILLE - The Newberry Wolves needed less than 45 minutes to dispatch of the Anderson Trojans, never conceding a takedown on the way to a 51-0 victory in the third session of the Super Region II Duals at the DeLoach Center on Saturday morning.

Newberry (12-2) picked up bonus points in nine of 10 bouts, closing the match with three straight pins in less than a minute.

Trung Duong started the match with a 17-0 technical fall that barely took time off the second period clock at 125 lbs., followed by Jordan Simpson earning a hard fought 7-5 decision at 133 lbs. Following a forfeit win at 141 lbs., Newberry led 14-0.

Zack Dobbins rolled to a 17-0 win by technical fall at 149 lbs. and Alex Rice needed less than a minute to win by fall at 157 lbs. The next two bouts were Newberry wins by major decision as Lukas Gilmore won 13-0 at 165 lbs. and Nick Young wrestled up to 174 lbs. and won by a 9-0 major decision.

The Wolves closed out the dual with emphasis, as No. 3 Huston Evans won by fall at 184 lbs. in just 54 seconds. Cody Brundage won by fall at 197 lbs. in 52 seconds and Mike Kennedy won by fall in only 46 seconds at 285 lbs.

Newberry closes out the Super Region II Duals with No. 14 Findlay in the next session.
