HARTSVILLE - The Newberry Wolves picked up wins in nine of 10 bouts on the way to a 42-4 ECAC Division II Wrestling League win over the Emmanuel Lions in the second session of the Super Region II Duals on Friday night.
Newberry is now 11-2 on the season and 2-0 in ECAC duals entering Saturday's action against Anderson (a schedule change from Kutztown) and No. 14 Findlay.
The first-year Lions put up some fight in certain weights, but the experience of the Wolves was far too much for Emmanuel to handle. After an early decision by Trung Duong at 125 lbs., Jordan Simpson at 133 lbs. and Nick Lankford at 141 lbs. each pinned their opponent to stake the Wolves out to a 15-0 lead.
After dropping a major decision at 149 lbs., the Wolves didn't look back. Lukas Gilmore at 165 lbs. and Mike Kennedy at 285 lbs. each won by fall with Alex Rice at 157 lbs., Huston Evans at 184 lbs. and Cody Brundage at 197 lbs. picking up wins by decision.
With their wins against Emmanuel, Duong, Evans and Brundage are each 12-1 in duals this season.
