HARTSVILLE - Led by four bonus point wins, the Newberry Wolves started the Super Region II Duals with a 26-15 win over the Ashland Eagles in the DeLoach Center on Friday.

With the win, Newberry moves to 10-2 on the season entering an ECAC dual against Emmanuel in the next session.

Trung Duong kicked off the dual with a shutout win by major decision at 125 lbs. followed by Jordan Simpson earning a second period fall at 133 lbs. to put the Wolves up 10-0.

Ashland rallied with a win by decision and win by fall to cut the lead to 10-9, but Alex Rice defeated regionally ranked Zeb Beam 1-0 at 157 lbs. to make it 13-9 in Newberry's favor at the halfway point. Lukas Gilmore earned a 7-1 win by decision to push that lead to 16-9.

After a loss at 174 lbs., Newberry saw No. 3 Huston Evans get a quick pin in the first period of the 184 lbs. bout to make it 22-12. No. 2 Joe Brandt edged Cody Brundage 3-1 at 197 lbs. and Mike Kennedy rolled to a 12-2 major decision at heavyweight to clinch the key regional win.
