Wolves look for redemption against Anderson on Saturday

ANDERSON- The Newberry College women's basketball team looks to defeat No.15 Anderson on Saturday, January 30 after dropping to the Trojans earlier in the season.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WOLVES
The team defeated Queens University of Charlotte 68-37, on Wednesday night.

At the end of the first quarter, Newberry leads 21-4 over Queens. Meg Essex led the team with six points while the team shot 64.3% from the field. Going into the final quarter, Newberry leads Queens 54-22. Newberry shot 56.5% from the field with Essex leading the team in points with 14.

Essex finished the game with 14 points, four blocks, and six rebounds. Emily Perry finished the game with 10 points and two rebounds while Jaya Schultz led the team in rebounds with 11. As a team, Newberry shot 52.5% from the field and 42.9% from the arch.

LAST MEETING WITH THE TROJANS
Earlier in the 2015-16 season, the Wolves dropped to No. 16 Anderson University 68-61.

Going into the third quarter, Anderson had a 27-23 lead. Essex had nine points followed by Samantha Creed who had six points. Kirsten Dunsmore and Essex both had three rebounds each.

Essex finished the game with 23 points, five rebounds and six blocks. Creed finished with 13 points, two boards and five assists. Perry led the team in steals with three in 28 minutes of play. As a team, the Wolves shot 66.7% from the free throw line and 45.5% from the arch.

SCOUTING No. 15 ANDERSON
The Trojans of Anderson University slipped in each of the two national polls but remained in the top-25 in each of the polls, as the Trojans dropped four spots to 15th in the latest USA TODAY Sports NCAA Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll and fell to No. 24 in the Division II Media Poll, after holding the No. 22 slot a week ago.

The team fell to Mars Hill on the road for the first time in a regular season road contest in 15 games, 93-73. Madison Floyd scored 16 points and went 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-9 from the 3 point arc. Jennifer Monroe tallied 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting and pulled down five rebounds. As a team, Anderson shot 36 percent with a 27-for-75 for the game but was unable to keep pace with the hot shooting by the Lions (55.2%).

Junior Heather Jankowy was named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for games played Jan. 11-17. Jankowy averaged 22.5 points, five rebounds and 5.5 assists on the week to help lead the league-leading Trojans to a pair of South Atlantic Conference victories and stretch AU’s SAC win streak to 26 games.
