NEWBERRY – The Newberry Wolves will host conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne Friday night at 7 p.m. and will host Brevard in a Saturday afternoon show down at 1p.m. conference show down in Eleazer Arena.
Newberry (6-4 overall, 2-3 SAC) will look to get back on a roll as they host Lenoir Rhyne at Eleazer Arena Friday night at 7 p.m. and Brevard Saturday afternoon at 1p.m. The Wolves lost their last match to Anderson by a score of 3-1 (15-25, 17-25, 25-21, 27-29) on Tuesday night. Lenoir Rhyne won their last match against the Brevard Tornados 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-11) on Tuesday night in Hickory N.C.
Alexus Horton led the way for the Wolves against Anderson with 14 kills on 22 attempts giving her a .636 hitting percentage and added one block and four block assists while Logan Hayward added eight kills on 40 attempts. Freshman setter Maggie Marsh had 40 assists on the night while adding 11 digs.
The Bears defeated the Brevard Tornados in their last match by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-11 and remained tied for second in the league standings with Wingate and Anderson.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore outside hitter Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) led the way with a match-high 10 kills while senior setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) added a double-double – 21 assists and 15 digs – as the Bears swept their second consecutive opponent.
Brevard (1-5, 0-2 SAC) fell in three sets to the Carson-Newman Eagles (5-1, 2-0 SAC), who advanced to the second round of last year’s NCAA Tournament. After claiming a 25-23 first-set victory that included 10 ties and four lead changes, Carson-Newman scored four consecutive points out of a timeout to slam the door on a comeback attempt in the second set and cruised to a large victory in the third to earn the sweep.

- Junior Logan Hayward leads the way for the Wolves offensively with 131 kills which is third-best in the SAC, while freshman Mary Siebert has added 95 kills which is second on the team for Newberry.
- Freshman Maggie Marsh has 360 assists, which is the most in the conference.
- Freshman libero Kensley Jordan helps the Wolves on defense by leading the team in digs with 205 alongside with freshman Natalie Willis, who has added 114 digs.
LENOIR-RHYNE NOTES
- Brooke Redmond and Ashley Wells are tied for first in kills with 74 for the Bears while Brandi Thomas adds 62 kills which averages 2.21 kills per set.
- Briana Gottberg leads the Bears in assists with 200 which gives her a 6.67 assists per set. Gottberg also leads the Bears in digs with 111.
- The Bears are 88 in the nation in hitting percentage with a .160 percentage.
Brevard Notes
- Fatima Gharachorloo is fifth in the conference in kills per set averaging 3.18 kills and also leads the team in kills with 105.
- Aleksandra Vrvilo is also fifth in the conference in digs with 173 while Erin Barr leads the team in assist with 294.
